Andrew had an extended series of focal aware seizures on Sunday. For him, these manifest as a mild headache, repeated vomiting, and sometimes speech issues. He was still really out of it Monday morning and was unable to speak in complete sentences or think of many simple words. Usually he has recovered by the next day, so after a phone call to the neurologist, Melanie took him to the ER at Children's Hospital. They monitored him, checked neurological signs, ran blood tests, and did a quick MRI. Nothing remarkable was seen. We were there a little more than six hours, and Andrew gradually regained his speech and was almost to his baseline when we were discharged.
It was very worrying to see him struggling with his speech so much again. It's really hard not to know why he had this episode when he had been doing so well the last few months.
